Dan Fisher is the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Operations and Maintenance for the Department of Facilities Management at the University of Pittsburgh.  As such, he is responsible to oversee the operation of an urban campus with over 6,000,000 square feet of education and general space, as well as state-of-the-art research and biomedical facilities. Dan joined the university in 1984 after serving in the U.S. Navy for 6 years. Dan has held various positions within the Facilities Management Department.   Prior to his promotion to his current position in 2015, Dan served as the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research Operations at Pitt, overseeing the operations of all university research and science facilities.

Mr. Fisher’s background in facilities operation brings unique strengths to our highly technical facilities.  Dan is a current Chairman of the NIH/NIAD, NBL/RBL Operations Committee, a member of the universities IACUC, EH&S, and Sustainability Committees and voting member of the ANSI Z9.14 Committee for “Testing and Performance Verification Methodologies of BSL3 Laboratories.” Dan is a co-author and editor of the book “Management Principles for Building and Operations of Biocontainment Facilities”.  He is recognized nationally for his expertise in the design, construction, commissioning and operation of containment and research facilities and has presented at national and international conferences.
